AIVAS does not exist, and the dragons still fight thread. This is how it looks to always be, and why not! Dragons need this purpose, as it is proven many times over in history. Yet, it seems it is a waning threat, as the star passes once again. Thread falls less often all the time now, and clutches are becoming smaller. A time of easy breathing is on it's way.

In these smaller clutches though, some odd dragons have appeared. Female bronzes, and small chromatics with only a hint of color. There seems to be nothing wrong with them, but with them only hailing from Ista and Alkmene Weyr, most are not sure what to make of them.

Add in the struggle for survival as Alkmene weyr has lost several bronzes and one old gold, and you have it! This is Alkmene weyr, located on the northern coast. Can it outlast the fall? What drama will play out as the loss of bronzes and a queen affect everyone... Will this new gold and weyrwoman live up to what has been left to them? Will the Weyr survive pressure from Ista to disban as both numbers dwindle?

Time deteriorates memories, records, and sometimes sense. Steam became Pern's new engine. It wasn't long before someone made a steam-powered airship that could clear the sky of Thread without the aid of dragons. Factories popped up, dragons declined, and eventually Holds stopped tithing. The dragonriders feared that their power might decline.

Fortunately, the crafters had a similar fear. Their work was being replaced by machines. Together, the upper-rank Crafters and Dragonriders devised a crazy concept that would become law 730 years later.

The Church of Dracol became Pern's social system. On the very top were the Queen riders. The second tier went to the High Priests, talented Crafters and firm believers in the Faith, and the Bronze Riders. The third tier belonged to the other priests and the riders of the mysterious yellow dragons. Then were the brownriders and the Lord Holders, both of which could be excommunicated if found associating with other causes. On the very bottom were the Blue and Green riders, beneath even the drudges in the new religious system of Pern.

The rigid nature was more inflexible than the caste system, and has become a way of life for everyone on Pern. But not all accept it...

[image]

There were two Weyrs left by the --Benden and Telgar. Telgar had but one Gold, while Benden had three. One such Gold rider, Brissena of Airunth, had gotten it into her head that she was some form of God. She asked for command on the grounds of her belief, but Lania of Gold Oberith only laughed. Annoyed, Brissena used the tributes from her hatchings and gifts from devout believers to fund a new Weyr.

She founded it in the Southern Barrier Range near the large city of Rabastre. It was built as a tribute to the Gold herself, a permanent monument to the Church of Dracol. Thus, Irichan Weyr was founded.

Only eight sevendays ago, Airunth went between with a dying Brissena on her back. Since then, the just-past-weyrling Junior weyrwoman Merope has taken over. Her Gold Bressith hadn't even experienced her maiden flight, and tensions began to appear.

Now, Gold Bressith grows egg-heavy. All eyes are on the young Weyrwoman, and not all are friendly.

Come join us at Irichan Weyr. We're a very new Pern RPG in which Aivas was never discovered. As a result of this, there have been no Long Intervals. It's set 3598 years after Landing in the forty-second Turn of the Sixteenth Pass. It features not only the opportunity to play in an interesting steampunk society but the chance to play as an airship pirate, a Steam Technician, a priest, or perhaps a member of a cult that isn't supposed to exist.

We boast only two mutations. Only one is a "true" mutation, and that would be the flightless yellow. The other mutation is albinism, which causes loss of color in any dragon. Previous Weyr affiliation means nothing to Irichan, and this is a great place to bounce back after a rough time at another place.

We have a dire need for Candidates, as our Senior Gold will be laying a clutch soon. Lots of role play will happen in the leading-up to the Hatching, and that means more custom dragonets. Who knows, there might be a gold in the clutch.

[image]
    Currently Accepting:
  • 3 Bronze Dragons - Once these Bronze dragons are gone, no more will be accepted!
  • 6 Brown Dragons - Once these Brown dragons are gone, no more will be accepted!
  • Two albinos of any color, except yellow
  • Candidates of either gender; male ones will be loved, though a good selection of female candidates will also be appreciated
  • Whers of any color, including Gold
  • A Weyrling Master
    Unique to Irichan:
  • The Church of Dracol - The rigid social-structure of the Steam-powered Pern.
  • Yellows - Also found on Firestone RPG, these flightless yellows might seem useless, but there are a lot of unsung perks to being a yellowrider that are special to Irichan.
  • Airship Pirates - Need I explain more?
  • The Cult of Disfavor - Most say it's just a myth made up to scare children, but others say the Cult exists, and it intends on the destruction of the Golds and Bronzes.
  • Automatic Fire Lizard - By joining Irichan, you get one fire-lizard of any color but Gold or Yellow. There is no prerequisite besides joining.
    Upcoming Events:
  • First Hatching at Irichan - The Clutching will happen as soon as all the details are worked out and we get more candidates. There will be a lot of role play going on up to the Hatching itself. It might even contain a queen egg.
  • Wher Hatching - For those left Standing at the first Dragon Hatching, there will be a chance to get your hands on some whers.

    Other plots will come up as we get more members, including something involving the Cult or perhaps airship pirates.

Once more we can rise from the ashes...

It has been over two Turns since the plague hit the Northern Continent. Many died, many were victims. The few left were force to take the weigh of those who had fallen. Thread still fell, it did not wait for the plague to subside. It did not care and in it's silver fall many more died. I watched on as my Weyr began to crumble, I watched as cries for help were left unanswered.

“Quarantine! We must quarantine the North!” Was what many Weyrleaders and Lord Holders demanded. I did not agree, nor at the time did my weyr mate who was Weyrleader of Crescent. The Master crafters stood behind every word the Riders said, and in the end there was a quarantine. It was insane! Most of the Weyrs could not fly Fall with a full wing! We needed to band together, but no. They were scared, as scared as I was. The total of death each day was stacking, it was traumatizing. The Queens we had were falling ill, many jumped between with or without their Rider. The ones left behind rose only to lay lifeless clutches. Madness, pain, suffering, and still we could do nothing but try. In a sea of my own tears I watched as the newer colors fell, they were hit harder and quicker.

Something needed to be done! It was clear the quarantine wasn't working! I rounded up my last surviving Wing Leaders,and Queenriders. I told them my plan, it was madness itself. But what did we have left to lose? I told them to spread the word that we were going to leave the North. Away from the plague, and hope that we could survive. That those left would not be lost. As the days went by till the date of when we would leave, many came willing to try anything. Anything at all. The day we left, I still felt tears fall down my cheeks. Many of my Riders could not come and I felt, some how I felt, that this was the last time I would see them. We left, left with heavy and broken hearts.

West, the one land that was never looked upon for settlement. We found a canyon perfect for building a new Weyr. A new life. And so we did. We survived the plague! Our young Queen is now close to age where she shall rise. As late Crescent's Weyrwoman and Solace's Weyrsteward, I feel that we will once more rise from the ashes anew! The Weyr is open to any who wish to settle here. The North has been ravaged, but still holds life. The other Weyrs are struggling to rebuild their numbers. But the Queens are rising, and one has even laid a clutch that has hatched!

Pern will survive, and so will the life on it.

Red River Weyr
3rd Pass Pern RP

Year 72 - Red River Weyr was founded in the foothills above the temperate tablelands in the central northern continent. The first Weyrwoman was Fiora of gold Ravath. The first Weyrleader was M'lel of bronze Duseth. Their first clutch consisted of 31 eggs with one queen, Jugrenth.

Beginning during the Second Pass, a trend developed amongst the Pernese. Though green dragons would Impress to male and female Candidates, fewer and fewer women were being Searched to Stand on the sands for the new babies. This was due to several factors -- holders were unwilling to send their daughters to the Weyr, preferring to keep them home to marry off to establish alliances or for personal gain. This move was also influenced by the commonfolks' interpretation of the Weyrs as an unwelcome draw upon healthy young men and women, (even a bastion of immorality).

Red River Weyr alone seemed to be immune to this trend. Their dragons still Searched out boys and girls alike, and female greenriders were given equal rights as their male counterparts, permitted to fly Threadfall with the wings. This perturbed many Holders, and even some of the other Weyrs. After all, a queenrider was a woman of upstanding virtues, inner strength, ensurers of Pern's future. Greenriders were promiscuous, emotional... the stigma attached to female greenriders grew and grew, and while Red River Weyr enjoyed pleasant (if cool) relationships with the other Weyrs, its relationship with the Holds suffered.

Currently, Red River Weyr is seen as the 'bastard child' of the Weyrs -- the last founded, a place to send riders that do not necessarily fit into the strictly stratified society that Pern has developed. It is a forward-thinking place, interesting in that it is actually perhaps the last Weyr to hold to the Old Ways.

Year 507 - Current Turn (late 3rd Interval)

Old Grananth is curled on the sands, hovering broodily over her clutch. The gold's wings are thickening, her shoulders gnarled and stiff with old scars. Many believe that this past Flight will probably be the aging queen's last, a meager clutch of 12 eggs. But wonder of wonders, she has lain a golden egg, the only one in eight years. Her rider, the Weyrwoman Esme, sits beside her great head, heartbroken, for her weyrmate of so many years, the Weyrleader J'elg, died not long after Grananth's final Flight, and his graying bronze Ovoth disappeared Between.

The Weyr is in limbo. Many riders fear that it will be dissolved, the riders distributed between the other Weyrs. But Grananth would allow none near her precious final brood.

The small clutch produced not only a new queen, but three oddly coloured dragons: Rose Golds Hectith and Trelilith, and Pewter Tecsolth. Are they the result of Grananth's illness? What will become of these strange new colours? And will they be enough to save the weyr?

Welcome to Red River Weyr.

a dragonriders of pern rpg

http://www.mavrosweyr.proboards.com

Mavros is a canon color, non-canon premise weyr-hold with a PG-13 rating. Located around a volcanic caldera, Mavros is composed of banished dragonriders and Holders from the Southern Continent. This means the Weyr "Bowl" is actually a harbor, and space is tight! Moreover, the Tenth Pass has just begun, and after a disastrous first threadfall, the Weyr has found itself with only thirteen adult dragons remaining.

We are currently in need of bronze, brown, green and blue riders. A clutch is on the sands, so we are also seeking Candidates of both genders! For those uninterested in dragons, the first six members to have their holder characters approved will be able to impress pre-designed fire lizards at a special early hatching. As of today, there is one egg remaining.

The writing level at Mavros is literate/advanced. Weyr-wide plots are already in motion, and eventually a few whers and dolphins may make an appearance. But for now, we need candidates for the coming hatchlings.

Ierne Island Weyrs
« Result #6 on Jan 27, 2009, 12:13pm »
Both of the Ierne Island Weyrs are set in the Ninth Pass. In the seventh Turn of it, a collection of renegade dragonriders, quietly selected from among all of the northern Weyrs, arrived at Ierne Island of the Southern Continent. Tired of listening to their Weyrleaders, they ignored the orders to return and held the island. As no one really wanted to send dragon against dragon, the Weyrs reluctantly left them alone. However, none of them acknowledged the newly named Ierne Weyr. After all, they had no queens, and greens could not clutch. There was no way they could continue. However, they were not about to leave the rogue riders to their own devices. Gathering volunteers from the various Weyrs, unconsciously mirroring Ierne, they created Sentinal Weyr. This small forest Weyr would guard the small holds nearby from Thread, true, but the grubbed South gave them enough spare time to keep a steady watch on their northern neighbours.

It was only several months later that the bronzes leading Ierne Weyr made their move. Where the Oldtimers of canon Pern stole Ramoth's egg, Ierne Weyr struck three times. With Ista, Fort, and High Reaches nursing clutches bearing queen eggs, the simultaneous attacks all hit home. Now Ierne Island had a way to breed another generation. Sentinal Weyr was accused for not stopping the move, but had no real way of knowing. By the time the deed was traced, the three little golds had both hatched and Impressed. Tossanth, Leith, and Nizelth were bound to the illegal Weyr before anyone else had a chance to react, and the north was forced to settle to angry grumbling.

In the meantime, Sentinal Weyr had two queens. Igen and Telgar Weyrs had both donated one of their younger queens, either of which would make a good Weyrwoman. Azrith, formerly of Igen, was the younger of the two, but still Rose to mate before Kittith. With the bronzes of Wings donated by Fort and Telgar, she was caught by Retannth. Now, Retannth had been from Telgar and did not merely know Kittith: he had been, and technically still was, her weyrmate. Sufice to say that Kittith and her rider were furious that the bronze would go back on their promise of only Chasing Kittith. Azrith woke during the growing argument between gold and bronze and forced her way in. The two golds quickly passed squabbling, and Kittith ended it by resigning from the Weyr. She returned to Telgar Weyr the next day.

Now, Azrith might have been considered Weyrqueen material by her former Weyr, but, once she had it, she proved them wrong. Both rider and dragon were lazy, short-tempered, and rather greedy. She often overpowered the momentary command to blood only before her Flights, and nearly all were short and shallow. The clutches she had, which should have been large due to the current Pass, were small and she only laid two queens in her lifetime.

If she had had more daughters, maybe more than one would have survived. As it happened, both Sentinal and Ierne Weyrs had been built on a chain of underground air pockets. Over time, the rock containing them had weaked, and eventually collapsed. On the twenty-second Turn of the Ninth Pass, Azrith and her rider were caught in the destruction and died. Many of the bronzes had died as well, for the gold had been near Rising and they would not leave her alone. Retannth survived, but his tale did not have a happy ending either. Azrith's senior daughter also perished in the collapse. Perhaps the worst part of the entire incident was that it was mostly the larger dragons who were slain, for the choicest weyrs happened to lie right along the fault.

It was not only the two Weyrs that suffered. The holders nearby also took a great deal of damage, and they had not had the ability to fly clear as the dragonriders did. Demanding to be given a reason as to why the dragons had not been able to prevent the disaster, a local holder challenged Retannth's rider to a duel. Half-crazed by the deaths of his family, and not caring that the bronze rider had a broken arm, he slaughtered the Weyrleader. The new Weyrqueen was only two Turns old, and the best of the bronzes were dead.

Ierne did not lose as many golds as Sentinal. Of their senior three, only Tossanth suicided when her rider was crushed. Leith, second-hatched, had been Weyrqueen since her maiden Flight with Narnaith as her Weyrleader for most of that time. Nizelth, third of the original trio, had gone between several Turns before when her rider died in childbirth. Their daughters, more numerous than Azrith's, had varying fates. While none of them were taken by the collapse, they had lost quite a few throughout the Turns. Some, like Nizelth's rider, died in labour. A few fled the Weyr and took refuge in the north. There are even rumours that some of them died of unknown 'accidents'.

Feeling up to the challenge of rebuilding a Weyr or two mid-Threadfall? We have plenty of firelizards to start with, a goldrider contest, open spaces for bronzeriders, an upcoming leadership flight, and much more!

What are you waiting fore?

Fort and High Reaches: A Dragon War Unavoided

There had only been one Weyr left when the eggs went missing.

Dragons no longer lived only in Weyrs, it has been nearly four Passes since Thread has last fallen. Dragonriders took their dragons and lived on the outskirts of Holds, working there to earn enough to stay alive. Tithes to the one remaining Weyr, Fort, were small and irregular. The few dozen riders there couldn't live off them, so most left to earn their own.

There were only a few higher-ranked dragons left. With Thread gone, the Golds didn’t Clutch as big or even as often. Most of the dragons left were Greens and Blues. As there were a few Browns ranging in size… there were just about a couple that were big enough to compete with the last of the Bronzes. Speaking of the Bronzes, there were only about four young enough to Chase the last Gold that was left.

But then the Gold, Esanith, rose. All the Bronzes chased, along with one Brown, and finally the largest of them, Bronze Myrieth, caught her. The clutch that resulted was a small one, with only twelve eggs, but it did hold a queen egg. Candidates were brought in (mostly weyr-brats though some Holds were still willing to let their young people be Searched) and Stood on the Sands.

Esanith betweened for a final time not much after her eggs hatched, much too old to continue life on the hard fare the dragons and riders were currently getting. The new Gold, Pesuth, was the only one left. When she was three Turns, she also rose and got caught by one of her clutch-brothers. The clutch, again, was small, with fourteen eggs. Yet another queen egg resided within this one.

Everyone in the Weyr was quite amazed by this, and again brought Candidates to the Weyr. But something unexpected happened just as the eggs' shells were beginning to thoroughly harden.

Pesuth left her eggs briefly, going for a quick hunting trip. No other dragons were left in charge, although a few fire-lizards remained to fawn over these giant eggs. The dragon paused in her feeding when a fair of them suddenly appeared with a frightened squawk, all screeching in fear and sending her flashes of her eggs. The Gold immediately went back to her Sands... only to find seven of the eggs gone, including the queen egg.

Dragons were sent out in all directions, searching Holds and abandoned Weyrs. There was no chance dragon eggs could be hidden in a Hold though, there were too few places to keep seven eggs warm and likely they wouldn't know how to tend them either. Who could have caused this? Who would steal eggs from a growing clutch?

Finally the remaining eggs hatched, into Greens, Blues, and a Brown. The thieves, whoever they were, had picked their eggs well. The search for the eggs lost was given up finally... they had either died, or hatched somewhere and Impressed someone. No one could know...

A'yian's Journal

Reaseth and I are tired of living like runnerbeasts, transporting goods for the Holders who hardly pay us enough to keep even a canine alive and treat us with less respect than they do a Holdless brat. I may only be a Bluerider, but I am still a dragonrider! Maybe we are not fighting Thread now, but we have in the past. Don't these vain people appreciate work, even if it was done many years ago? Who would forget all the good the dragons had done?

Well... apparently anyone who doesn't ride one. We are finished waiting though. Swith and R'nal tell us they have discovered a secret to between. Not only can you go between places, but between times...

There is a Gold on the Sands at Fort Weyr. There are other eggs too. We could take them, start up a new Weyr. Perhaps far in the past, and when the dragons are grown bring them back. We will need new dragons. R'nal suggests we head to the future and be waiting for the others when they reach us. We debated for a long while, and finally decided to go forward in time. There is a much less likely chance that we will be discovered and we won't run into ourselves then.

Ganath and Tr'il aren't as sure, but are willing to work with us.

~~~
We have done it! My Bronze fire-lizard, Kanst, has been keeping watch in the Hatching Grounds for ages. Finally the Gold left her eggs! We came, we grabbed six and the queen egg... and left again. We headed back to our designated point, at High Reaches, and then jumped forward two years. Hopefully that will be enough time…and not much of a strain.
~~~

Taking up residence in High Reaches Weyr, we set the eggs on the Sands and left Ganath to care for them. She is a female anyways, she should know how to care for young even if she never had any. Swith and R'nal are beginning to feel quite content about jumping between times. Along with my daughter, Arisha, we will have more Candidates. She came with us, daring girl, and now R'nal looks for boys to bring forward.

~~~
The eggs have hatched! The Gold, Bayranth, Impressed Arisha, and two Bronzes, a Brown, a Blue, and a Green have also Impressed. There was also one more dragon...a White one. It is small, but intelligent…much like the Bronzes and the higher ranked dragons but a lower rank due to size. The White Impressed to a boy and claims to be a female. There was a White male many Turns ago… Ruth. Perhaps the mutated gene is coming back and there will be more of them, including more females?
~~~~~~~~

Two Turns have passed; our Green is mature and just rose. Perhaps Bayranth will have a bit more time to wait, but she is healthy also. The Brown died in a betweening accident... but the other dragonets are fine. All is well... and the world that we've hidden from for two years still hasn't noticed us.

~~~
Bayranth has risen! Bronzes from Fort Weyr came from between to join the chase though; we are known about now. The Gold chose a Bronze from High Reaches...but Fort will be at our throats soon, Tr'il is sure.
~~~

It was a powerful group of Bronzes that came after us, their riders demanding the return of their Queen. Everyone was frightened, but we held back. Bayranth is still here, so is everyone else. She has only just Flown! Do they want to stress her that much? Apparently they don't care.

~~~
An attack. That was not what we were expecting. Do they care that much about a single Gold? Pesuth is still healthy, she could clutch another few good Clutches. The dragons we have a High Reaches now are dragons of High Reaches.
But we are one less. When the Bronzes attacked, they frightened Ganath and Tr'il between... and they didn't come out. Well. If they want a battle... they can have it.
The Present
Bayranth's Clutch of twenty-two eggs is hardening on the sands, and Pesuth is very close to rising. The war is heating up, but will that affect the Clutches at all?
Who will come out on top of this war? Fort is more prepared in numbers...but who is more prepared in defending what they think is right?
