Within the Weyr
The politics within the Weyr are very unstable, and it is more like the dark age than anything else. The various colors are all in their own wings, and they like to compete for honor, glory and, most of all, the position of Weyrwoman or Weyrleader. Whatever colors are in these two positions brings great honor to their Wing, as well as great power.
The battle for power between the Queens is most common, as the males usually settled their power competitions through the flight for the Weyrwoman. However, the female dragons all duke it out to find out which one is the strongest, and she leads the Weyr. The Queens duel for power goes like this:
1) They battle for power within the Wing first, and the strongest becomes the Wingleader while the wingleader's favorite becomes the Second.
2) The three Queen Wingleaders come together and often battle it out, using power, skill, cunning and brute force to win over their rivals. They do not kill the other, but instead pin them to the ground to prove hteir dominance. Yes, it is bloody. Yes, some have died. Yes, it will continue to happen, because they have yet to figure out a better way.
These duels can only take place once a year, in the spring. Riders can also choose to settle it themselves, although it is not advised, as humans heal more slowly than dragons. Many wings will try to take out the rider of a strong dragon, which is why riders carry all sorts of weapons and why there is a new craft: The Warrior Craft.
Currently, there are two major rivalries within the Weyr.
1) Between the Gold Wing and the Ruby Wing
- Ever since Jasiath has wanted to be Weyrqueen, Aziath has defeated her in the Competitions. This has left the hot-headed Queen angry and itching for power. She and her Wing are trying to form a rebellion against the Gold leadership, and are trying to get as many wings on their side as possible. However, Aziath will not go down without a fight, and she too is rallying her troops.
2) Between the Bronzes and the Azurites
- These two have been going at it since the blues became big enough to fly queens. The bronzes, unhappy at being outsted from their position of luxury, used to kill the Azurites. When they finally stopped, the Azurites decided it was time for pay back. This fued is quite bloody for one between males, and many have died. Will it ever end?
Because of the crazy politics, the Weyr is in turmoil. WKaja is trying to bring unity back into the Weyr, but everything she tries fails. Is it hopeless, or hopeful?
Between the Weyrs
Because these color rivalries are within every Weyr, power hungry queens often come and challenge other Weyrs for more powerful positions. They can challenge for various positions, but usually fail because there is nothing worse than losing to an outside Weyr.
Raids also happen, if an outside Wieyr needs more of a certain color. These can be particularly dangerous for clutches, hatchlings and Weyrlings.
Between Weyrs and Holds
While tipsy, they are currently stable.
